Spartans Take Home 3-1 Win Over Fraser Valley
|
The Sandy Springs Spartans had to overcome a good performance from Fraser Valley pitcher Dan Strachan to claim a 3-1 win at The Coliseum. Strachan went 5.2 innings and allowed 3 runs. The win for the Spartans raised their record to 86-76.
Sandy Springs right fielder Jay Helmke contributed a timely at-bat in the bottom of the fifth. With two down, he hit a fastball to right field for a run-scoring single. It was his 151st hit of the season and put the Spartans ahead, 2-1.
"We made a couple of mistakes," said Fraser Valley skipper Albert Giles, "and it cost us."
