Clearwater wasted an exceptional performance by pitcher Roberto Baez, falling to the Boston Whitecaps, 4-3. Baez threw 8.0 innings of 5-hit ball for the losing team. Jude Helmer was the winner in relief. His record is now 3-0. The losing pitcher was Dave Mendez. The loss makes Clearwater 79-79.

Batting in the bottom of the ninth, 24-year old second baseman Jesus Pelayo had a real shot to win the game. Clearwater pitcher Dave Mendez was determined not to let it happen. But with two outs, Pelayo hit a 2-run single. The Whitecaps had a walk-off triumph.
