Whitecaps, Coburn Pin Bad Loss on Cornhuskers
|
The exploits of first baseman John Coburn, who is tied for 4th in the TAA in hits with 157, helped the Boston Whitecaps defeat the DeKalb Cornhuskers, 10-2. Coburn went 3 for 4 with a home run and a double, while scoring 3 times and driving in 2. Picking up the win was Josh Lassiter. He went 7 innings, allowing 2 runs on 7 hits. The right--hander struck out 5 and walked 1. Tim Rae closed out the game, earning his 5th save.
The Whitecaps had to work out of trouble in the top of the eighth. The score was 5-2, Boston, with one out. DeKalb, with runners on 1st and 2nd, was mounting a threat. Tony Alvarez dug in at the plate, but on a full count fastball, he struck out.
