Beltran Delivers Walk-Off Win for Islanders
|
The Coronado Islanders picked up a win at Barack H. Obama Park, knocking off the Yuma Varmits, 3-1. Starting pitcher Jonathan Johnson was a big reason why. Coronado reliever Jeff Gamble picked up the win, upping his record to 1-0. Allen Cain took the loss. Coronado's record now stands at 43-24, placing them second in the TML R Otto Velez Division.
Coronado got a clutch hit from Israel Beltran. The shortstop launched a 2-run home run in the bottom of the tenth inning to win the game. It was his only hit in 1 at-bat, but it was a kill shot.
During his postgame press conference, Islanders manager Ed Lenhardt told reporters that he expected a tight game from the get-go. "This had the potential to go down to the wire, and it certainly didn't disappoint," he said, later quipping, "it might've been a little less nerve-racking if I had been watching the game from my couch!"
