In a low-scoring affair between the Hawaii Honu and the Asheville Moonshiners, pitcher Fernando Vazquez was the difference between victory and defeat. The Hawaii left-hander earned accolades for his stellar performance in the 2-1 Honu win. Tom Mitcham closed the game out for Hawaii, earning his 24th save. The Honu are now 60-31, while the Moonshiners fall to 47-44.
The Moonshiners had few good swings against Vazquez, the left-hander, who threw 92 pitches over 7 innings. He allowed just no runs on 3 hits.
"I tell our guys all the time, 'Every pitch is the right pitch if you put it in the right place, you believe in it and have conviction,'" Hawaii manager Naoki Okada said.
