Schropp, Aigles Rough Up Miners
|
Trois-Rivieres and Southern Illinois took Mother Nature's best shot and still managed to complete their ballgame.
The Trois-Rivieres Aigles beat the Southern Illinois Miners, 12-3, at Ballpark of Ecatepec College. The win was largely due to the efforts of first baseman Phil Schropp, who captured player of the game honors. He was 2-3 with a home run and a walk. He drove in 5 runs and scored once. Ben McAfee earned the win for Trois-Rivieres. He lasted 6.1 innings, allowing 3 earned runs on 4 hits, while striking out 7. With the win, he raised his record to 4-2.
With the clubs tied 2-2 in the bottom of the second and the bases loaded, first baseman Schropp, who is tied for 2nd in the FL in home runs with 16, hit a grand slam.
"The boys came out and just played their butts off," said Trois-Rivieres manager Sean Laster.
The Aigles saw their win-loss record go to 30-18. At the same time, the Miners fell to 24-24.
