Gilliland Blasts Mounties, Eclipse Take Game 2, 7-6
|
The Chicago Eclipse defeated the Montreal Mounties, 7-6, in Game 2 of the LCS Round. Making an impact was second baseman Larry Gilliland, who was 3 for 5 with a home run and 2 singles. He scored 2 times. The win moves Chicago into a 1-1 tie with Montreal in the series.
Chicago needed the clutch hitting of Sean Martineau to seal the deal. The right fielder swatted a 2-run home run in the top of the ninth inning to put the Eclipse on top, 7-6. For the game, Martineau had 1 home run and 1 single in 4 at-bats.
"We're one game closer to our goal," Chicago manager Demetrio Recchia said later. "It isn't any more complicated than that."
Game 3 is scheduled for Monday at Millennium Field in Chicago.
