Wild Things Best Boulders in Pitching Duel
|
Colonels Ballpark was the site of a exceptional pitchers' duel.
The Washington Wild Things got a stellar effort from pitcher Jeremy Gilcher, helping Washington score a 2-0 win over the visiting New York Boulders. Gilcher, the winner, moves to 1-3. He threw 6.1 innings of 2-hit ball, while fanning 5 and giving up 3 walks.
Washington catcher Chris Adams laid a blow when he belted a solo home run in the bottom of the fifth. It was his 2nd home run of the season. With it, the Wild Things took a 2-0 lead.
Afterward, Wild Things manager Chad Bender was ebullient. "That was a fun game to coach," he told a group of reporters, adding, "I hope it was just as fun to watch."
The Wild Things raised their record to 19-21.
