Loss to Miners Extends Lake Erie Losing Streak
|
Sussex County rode a decent outing from starter Mike Sonny to victory over the Lake Erie Crushers at Commodores Ballpark. The final score was 3-2. Sonny, the winner, moves to 1-2. He threw 5.2 innings of 4-hit ball, while fanning 7 and giving up no walks. Lake Erie is in the throes of a 9-game losing streak.
Mark Plagman had a big run-scoring single for the Miners in the bottom of the sixth inning. With Sussex County leading 2-1 and runners on 1st and 3rd, he got a changeup from Jim Gorr and stroked the single to right. It was his 35th hit of the season, and more importantly, it put the Miners ahead, 3-1.
"Nice to get this one," said Sonny. "Wins have been hard to come by."
