Miners Rally to Eke Out Win
|
Southern Illinois played host to Schaumburg at the friendly confines of Ballpark of Milwaukee College.
Southern Illinois Miners starter Dakota Hamaty was locked-in. He led his team to a win over the Schaumburg Boomers, 3-2. The winner was Southern Illinois reliever Justin Nibert, now 2-0. The loser was Bob Bennett.
The Miners got an important contribution from second baseman Lee Cossin, who in the bottom of the 11th hit a first pitch fastball into center for a run-scoring single. It was his 19th hit of the season and put the Miners ahead, 3-2.
Hamaty said afterward that he was "glad the fans were treated to a good ballgame."
With the win, Southern Illinois improves its record to 8-6.
