Ascencio Goes Off, But Miners Win
|
Fans who came to Colonels Ballpark watched the Sussex County Miners and the Washington Wild Things fight to the finish.
The Sussex County Miners outlasted Tony Ascencio and the Washington Wild Things, 9-8. Ascencio was impressive in the loss. The Washington designated hitter slugged 2 home runs, while scoring 3 runs and driving in 3. Sussex County reliever Chris Sanker was credited with the win, to go to 2-0. Ben Malcom took the loss for Washington. Jimmy Curtis earned the save, his 3rd, for the Miners.
Mark Plagman contributed to the Miners cause with a productive at-bat in the top of the eighth inning. With a runner on 1st, he hit a run-scoring triple, giving Sussex County the lead.
"It wasn't our best performance," said Plagman, "but a win in this league is nothing to sniff at."
With the loss, Washington is 7-5.
