Miners Beat Visiting Otters, 7-4
The Southern Illinois Miners defeated the Evansville Otters, 7-4. Earning player of the game honors was third baseman Matt McDonald, who hit 2 home runs, while adding 3 RBI and scoring twice. Max Kelley got the win, improving to 1-0. He pitched 6.2 innings, giving up 6 hits and 1 run, while striking out 9 and walking 0. The Otters fall to 5-6 and continue their wobbly start to the 2044 season.

The Miners got a big boost from shortstop Lee Cossin who had a 2-run home run in the bottom of the first inning off Otters hurler Mike Keeney. It was his 2nd home run of the season and put Southern Illinois on top, 2-0.

"If we play like this, we can win a lot of games," Cossin told the Southern Illinois Times.
