Hayes has 3 hit day to Pull Otters to .500
|
With designated hitter Aaron Hayes leading the charge, the Evansville Otters defeated the Southern Illinois Miners, 10-6, at Ballpark of Milwaukee College. Hayes was 3-4 with a home run, 2 singles, and 2 walks. He scored 2 times and drove in 2. Evansville reliever Ray Briggs picked up the win, upping his record to 1-0. Tommy Vallee took the loss. With the win, Evansville improves its record to 5-5.
A defensive lapse proved costly in the contest. In the top of the sixth, with the game tied, Scott Benham was at the plate when Evansville scored 1 on an error. The miscue enabled the Otters to go in front, 6-5.
"We take it day by day here," said Benham, "and today was a good one for us."
