Miners Get Close Win Over Jackels
|
Southern Illinois catcher Gavin Garcia had 4 ribbies while helping his team defeat the New Jersey Jackels, 6-4. Southern Illinois reliever Justin Nibert picked up the win, upping his record to 1-0. Carlos Carrasco took the loss. Carlos Vasquez sewed up the save, his 2nd.
The Miners got a big boost from right fielder Bob Borrayo who had a run-scoring walk in the bottom of the eighth inning off Jackels hurler Carlos Carrasco. It was his 4th walk of the season and put Southern Illinois on top, 4-3.
"We were able to get some things going offensively," said Borrayo.
With the win, Southern Illinois boosts its record to 2-1.
