League Pennant Game 1 Victory for Ortiz and Eureka
Jonathan Ortiz and the Eureka Hornets opened the League Pennant in brilliant fashion, shutting out the visiting San Francisco Earthquakes at The Nest, 6-0, and securing an early 1-0 lead in the best-of-7 series. Ortiz, the Hornets right-hander, threw 7.0 innings of shutout ball.

Ortiz was in the zone all game. He frustrated San Francisco hitters while giving the Hornets 7 innings of quality work. Ortiz threw 105 pitches, allowing 4 hits and getting 6 punchouts.

Eureka manager Juan Montés called it "a darn good win."

The next game is set to be played tomorrow at The Nest in Eureka.
