San Francisco Takes 2-1 Series Lead Behind 5 RBIs from 3B Salstrom
As the San Francisco Earthquakes and Montreal Jazz battled through extra innings, it was a rookie who made the difference.

Young San Francisco third baseman Dusty Salstrom, 22 led the way with a strong hitting performance in the 15-inning marathon. Salstrom hit 2 home runs. He scored 3 runs and drove in 5 during the 14-9 San Francisco win over the Jazz. The win gives the Earthquakes a 2-1 lead in the best-of-7 Wild Card Round.

San Francisco needed the clutch hitting of Mike Young to notch the win. The first baseman hammered a solo home run in the top of the 15th inning to put the Earthquakes on top, 10-9. For the game, Young had 1 home run and 2 singles in 7 at-bats.

"It's on me," said Jazz manager Pedro Gonzáles. "The guys I sent out there today were the wrong ones for the situation. I'll be sure to send the right ones out next time."

The next game is set to be played tomorrow at Stade Claude Raymond in Montreal.
