League Championship Series Game 1 Goes to Topeka West, Thanks to Pinheiro
The Topeka West Chargers started the League Championship Series in style, downing the visiting Santa Clara Vampires at Breakers Ballpark by a score of 10-5 to grab an early 1-0 lead in the best-of-7 series. Chargers second baseman Tom Pinheiro went 3-5 with a home run and 2 singles. He scored 3 times.

Rob Shiver had a key at-bat with two out in the bottom of the third for Topeka West. With the bases loaded and the Chargers leading 2-1, he drew a walk, driving in 1 run.

"It's true for every sport, I think, but the playoffs are so short that you've just got to get in and get hot," Topeka West manager Walt Muller told BNN after the win. "We took care of the first part and now we're just working on the second."
