The Oklahoma Sooners defeated the South Mississippi Golden Eagles, 11-10, in Game 1 of the NCAA College World Series. A big contributor was left fielder Andy Dunn, who hit 2 home runs, while scoring 3 and driving in 3. The win moves Oklahoma into a 1-0 lead in the series.
Rich Van Fleet, the Oklahoma third baseman, contributed a run-scoring single in the bottom of the sixth inning to make the score 9-7, Sooners. For the game, Van Fleet went 2-4 with a double and a walk.
"They say the first rule of the playoffs is to win the home games," Van Fleet said afterward. "It feels nice, but it is kind of what we were supposed to do."
