Lighting Defeat Commies, 9-4
|
The Thunder Bay Lighting faced a tough opponent in Caribbean pitcher Pablo Flores, but did just enough to pull out the victory at Castro Field by a final score of 9-4 in 11 innings. Flores went 6 innings and allowed 1 run. The winner was Thunder Bay reliever Juan Valdez, now 5-4. The loser was Roberto Vasquez. The third-place Lighting have won 5 straight.
Manny Colon was 1 for 3 with 3 walks, while scoring 2 for Thunder Bay. The 19-year old shortstop had a key at-bat in the top of the 11th. With two out and the bases loaded, he broke a 4-4 tie with a run-scoring walk off Mashiro Kondo. It was his 66th walk of the season.
"Feels good to be on the winning side," said Colon.
