Lighting Take Tight Tilt
|
The Frobisher Bay Caribou wasted an inspired, 5.1-inning effort from starter Owen Caddell, falling, 2-1, to the Thunder Bay Lighting at Lightning Grove. Picking up his 32nd save was 21-year old left-handed pitcher Juan Valdez. Thunder Bay is sitting pretty at 84-39.
The Lighting got a big at-bat from designated hitter Alex Martinez. For the game, Martinez was 1-1 with a double, 2 walks, and was hit by a pitch, while adding 2 RBI. In the bottom of the third, with runners on 1st and 2nd, he stroked a 2-run double. His 18th double of the season gave Thunder Bay a 2-0 lead.
"Good ballgame," said Frobisher Bay manager Pete Valley. "But we came up on the short end."
