Pirates Suffer 3-1 Loss to Normal
|
Normal pitcher Alex Saxton had a large part in his team subduing the Paradise Island Pirates, 3-1. The opposition could never mount much of a rally against the left-hander. The winner was Saxton. He threw 6.2 innings allowing 1 run. The loser was Sean Meloche. Steve Carpenter notched his 5th save of the season.
Oscar Salvador had a big run-scoring double for the Nutcrackers in the bottom of the fifth inning. With Normal leading 2-1 and a runner on 1st, he got a fastball from 20-year old right-handed pitcher Sean Meloche and swatted a double to right. It was his 3rd double of the season, and more importantly, it put the Nutcrackers ahead, 3-1.
"Coulda, shoulda, woulda," said Paradise Island manager Jorge Ávila. "We had our chances and didn't cash in."
The 4th-place Nutcrackers are 18-24.
