Hits Galore: Benavidez Drills 5 Hits
Jose Benavidez exploded for a barrage of base hits at The Cove.

The Paradise Island catcher had a field day in his team's 14-11 triumph over the Oconto Falls Timbers, finishing 5-for-6.

"My hitting philosophy is simple," he said. "I focus on just seeing the ball and I try to get a good pitch."

Benavidez must have focused at least 5 times and apparently got some good pitches, too, leading to one of his best days ever with the bat. Jose Benavidez singled in the 3rd, hit a solo-shot off Danny Benitez in the 4th, struck out in the 5th, hit a two-run home run off Richard Marin in the 7th, hit an RBI single in the 8th and hit an RBI single in the 9th.

Benavidez is hitting at a .365 mark this season. His stats show 10 home runs, 29 RBIs and 23 runs scored. He has played 44 games for the Pirates.
