Commies Clip Homewreckers in Tight Contest
|
The Commies grabbed a win, 6-5, at Kitfield Castle, overcoming a fine effort from Moncks Corner pitcher Jacob Zijlstra. Zijlstra went 6 innings and allowed no earned runs. Miguel Baragan closed the game out for Caribbean, earning his 1st save. With the win over Moncks Corner, the Commies improved to 29-41.
Caribbean used the timely hitting of Miguel Rivera to seize the win. The shortstop stroked a 2-run single in the top of the eighth inning to put the Commies on top, 5-3. It was his only hit in 3 at-bats, but it was a game-changer.
"We put a lot of pressure on ourselves," Rivera told a Caribbean Observer reporter. "Sometimes we need just to relax."
