Rockville overcame a superlative game from Jose Gaspar to beat Caribbean, 3-2. The Caribbean pitcher took player of the game honors in a losing cause. He threw 6 innings of shutout ball. Miguel Salgado got the win, improving to 4-1. He worked 8 innings, giving up 2 runs on 7 hits, while striking out 4 and walking 1. Tony Avila earned the save for Rockville, his 4th.
Rockville relied on the hitting of C.J. Preston to pick up the win. The third baseman clubbed a run-scoring single in the top of the ninth inning to put the Rangers on top, 3-2. For the game, Preston had 1 home run and 1 single in 5 at-bats.
"You get some opportunities, you better take advantage of them," said Caribbean manager Atamas Manas.
The third-place Rangers now have a win-loss record of 34-32.
