Multi-HR Day for Fernandez as Commies Overpower Fighting Iguanas, 9-8
|
Caribbean center fielder Jordan Fernandez was instrumental in his team's 9-8 win over the Boca Raton Fighting Iguanas. Fernandez went 2-5 with 2 runs scored to lead the offensive attack for the Commies. Caribbean reliever Ramiro Mojica picked up the win, upping his record to 1-0. Amir Smith shouldered the loss. Jesus Alvarez closed the door for Caribbean, picking up his 2nd save of the year.
Fernandez contributed a big hit, a 3-run home run, for Caribbean in the top of the fifth. With his team trailing 5-3, Fernandez took a curveball from Amir Smith and stroked the home run to right. His 3rd home run of the season allowed the Commies to leap in front, 6-5.
"We put it together today and came out with the win," Fernandez said in postgame remarks. "That's the main thing."
Caribbean is now 23-36.
