In a low-scoring affair between the Yuma Varmits and the Savannah Peaches, pitcher John Spears was the difference between victory and defeat. The Yuma right-hander earned accolades for his stellar performance in the 2-1 Varmits win. Yuma, with the win, is 6-3.

Greg Stone drew 2 walks for Yuma. The 19-year old second baseman had a key at-bat in the bottom of the eighth. With two out and the bases loaded, he broke a 1-1 tie with a run-scoring walk off Robert Phillips. It was his 10th walk of the season.

"We had the right guys up at the right times," said Savannah manager David Flecha. "We just didn't cash in."
