Luis Vargas pitched well, but his team, the Manchester Mooses, still dropped a 1-0 decision to the Caribbean Commies at Moose Head Stadium. Caribbean pitcher Francisco Castillo earned the win, hiking his record to 12-5. Luis Vargas suffered the loss. Caribbean is now 36-45, Manchester 42-39.

The Commies got a big at-bat from shortstop Fabrício Alfes. For the game, Alfes went 1-3 with a home run and a walk. In the top of the first, with the bases empty, he stroked a solo home run. His 11th home run of the season gave Caribbean a 1-0 lead.

"In baseball, you have your ups and downs," said Manchester manager Rodney Beam. "You just try to stay level-headed the whole time."
