Wichita right-hander Jimmy Ward pitched his team to victory over the Yuma Varmits at The Range. The final score was 4-2. Ward went 8 innings to notch the win. He scattered 9 hits, walked 1, and struck out 5. His record improves to 4-4. Alan Weston, summoned from the bullpen, notched his 7th save.
The game was at a stalemate until second baseman Corey Gary came to bat in the top of the ninth. Facing Yuma pitcher Paul Antoinette, he hit a 1-1 fastball for a 2-run single. It was a game-changer, putting Wichita on top, 4-2.
