Nutcrackers Rebuff Rangers, 2-0

The Normal Nutcrackers went home winners at The Nutcracker Suite, thanks in large part to starter Tony Bigio. Bigio stifled the Carrollton Rangers, enabling Normal to grab the 2-0 win. Normal reliever Tony Bigio got the win, raising his record to 2-1. John Clay was tagged with the loss. Normal is 35-52 and Carrollton, with the loss, 47-39.
The Nutcrackers got a big at-bat from second baseman Carlos Villarreal. For the game, Villarreal was 1-3 with a home run. In the bottom of the fifth, with the bases empty, he stroked a solo home run. His 6th home run of the season gave Normal a 1-0 lead.
"Bottom line," said Carrollton skipper Hung-chang Chao, "we didn't play well enough to win."
