Yuma and St. Paul got after it at The Thunderdome.

The Yuma Varmits got a stellar performance from pitcher Joel Elkins, who handcuffed the St. Paul offense en route to a 5-1 win at The Thunderdome. The Varmits, now 19-18, know that wins in August count the same as wins in September.

The Grognards had few good swings against Elkins, the left-hander, who threw 137 pitches over 8 innings. He allowed just 1 run on 3 hits.

"Throwing strikes was the main thing," Elkins said.
