Miners Deal Commies Painful Loss
The Sylva Miners nipped the Caribbean Commies, 4-3, at Pickaxe Field. Sylva pitcher Dave Andrews, in particular, starred. Andrews, who leads the RR in wins with 9, went the distance for Sylva. He gave up 3 runs on 7 hits. The win for the Miners lifted their record to 47-9.

A crucial at-bat came with a runner on 1st and one out in the bottom of the seventh inning. That's when third baseman Dan Becker, who is tied for 10th in the RR in runs scored with 41, hit a run-scoring triple. The Miners went on to win.

Caribbean manager Atamas Manas said he was "mildly disappointed" with the loss. "We had our opportunities, but we didn't take advantage of them," he said.
