The Yuma Varmits faced a tough opponent in Syracuse pitcher Ruben Gonzales, but did just enough to pull out the victory at Syracuse Fields by a final score of 6-1. Gonzales went 5.1 innings and allowed no runs. Juan Silva, the winning pitcher, is now 3-2. He went 5.2 innings, allowing 1 run on 5 hits, while fanning 5 and walking 6. The save went to Victor Vasquez, his 1st this season.

Manny Ortiz had a big 2-run home run for the Varmits in the top of the second inning. With Yuma leading 1-0 and a runner on 1st, he sized up a knuckleball from Alexis Ruiz, who is tied for 6th in the RR in wins with 6, and punished it. The result was his 7th home run of the season, which put the Varmits on top, 3-0.

"Today was a lot of fun," said Ortiz.
