Gremlins Earn Late 4-3 Win
|
The Cairo Pharaohs could not turn a fine performance from designated hitter Dennis Stone into a win. Instead, the Houghton Gremlins prevailed, 4-3. Stone was 3-3 with 3 singles and a walk, while adding 2 RBI. Jeromir Hamrlik got credit for the win, improving to 6-6. He allowed 3 runs on 8 hits in 7 innings. Chris Wethington recorded the save for Houghton, his 16th of the season.
Houghton used a timely hit from Feitze de Rooij to get the win. The first baseman stroked a run-scoring double in the top of the eighth inning to put the Gremlins ahead, 4-3. It was his only hit in 4 at-bats, but it made an impact.
"We've got guys willing to do what it takes to win," de Rooij told the Houghton Bulletin.
The Gremlins improved their record to 39-39 by beating Cairo.
