Ruiz Fans 13 as Syracuse Thumps Caribbean, 12-2
|
Syracuse starter Alexis Ruiz kept the Caribbean hitters in check, helping his team cruise to a win, 12-2. Caribbean is in the throes of a long losing streak, which is now 9 games.
The standout performance belonged to 17-year-old Ruiz. With his baby face, he looked more like someone starting for a high school team than for the Orange Sox. His performance, however, was nothing short of top-notch. The youngster dominated the Commies, striking out 13 and scattering 5 hits over 8.1 innings. Ruiz is now 5-2 on the season.
Said losing manager Atamas Manas: "These are the grinding hard days that all good teams go through, and this is when we've got to stick together and believe in one another."
