The West Island Jazz besoiled an otherwise fine performance by Jacksonville left fielder Miguel Ruiz by beating the Pilots, 6-4, at Arnold Field. Ruiz was 2 for 2 with 2 singles and 2 walks. The win elevated the Jazz to 51-39.

Bill Buntrock came through with a big-time hit for West Island. The third baseman smacked a 2-run home run in the top of the ninth inning to give his team the lead, 6-4. It was his only hit, but it was clutch.

"We'll pocket this win," said Buntrock, "and then go after another."
