Orange Sox Topple Commies, 13-5, as Tamez Shines
Getting a good performance from catcher Jose Tamez, the Syracuse Orange Sox defeated the Caribbean Commies, 13-5. Tamez was 3-5 with 2 home runs. He drove in 6 runs and scored twice for the Orange Sox. Kevin Froehle got credit for the win, improving to 4-1. He allowed 5 runs on 10 hits in 6.1 innings. The slumping Commies have dropped 7 in a row.

With Syracuse leading 9-5 in the bottom of the eighth, Tamez came up to bat against Caribbean pitcher Miguel Garcia. Tamez hit a fastball to center for a grand slam home run. His 7th home run of the season put the Orange Sox on top, 13-5.

"This game will humble you at times and you've got to buck up and deal with it," said Caribbean manager Atamas Manas.
