The Kansas City Tornadoes powered past the Montreal Mounties, 9-8, in 13 innings at Debris Field. Eddie Escobar was 3-4 with a home run, a double, and 3 walks. He scored 3 runs and drove in 2, to lead the charge. Simon Slama was the winner in relief. His record is now 4-3. The losing pitcher was Randy Mowers. The defeat makes Montreal 41-36.
The Tornadoes got a clutch hit from second baseman Rafael Rodriguez. In the bottom of the 13th, he delivered a run-scoring single to win the game for the Tornadoes.
"The team always comes first," Rodriguez told a reporter while responding to autograph requests. "Our fans like to come out to see a win, so I'm happy to do what I can to give them that."
