The Montreal Jazz downed the Bloomington Blazers, 5-1, at Stade Claude Raymond. Stellar pitching by Roberto Vallejos had a lot to do with it. The left-hander, who is a two-time Gold Glove Award winner, handcuffed his opponent all game. Vallejos, now 5-7, was the winner. In 8.2 innings, he gave up 7 hits, while striking out 6, walking 1, and allowing 1 run. The third-place Jazz have won 4 in a row.

Mike Maguire had a big bases-clearing double for the Jazz in the bottom of the third inning. With Montreal leading 1-0 and the bases loaded, he got a curveball from 26-year old left-handed pitcher Jorge Lagunas and swatted a double to left. It was his 5th double of the season, and more importantly, it put the Jazz ahead, 4-0.

"It was a tough night at the plate," said Bloomington manager Leo Dethwright.
