Goodwin Slugs Hornets to 8-2 Win
|
Ray Goodwin led the Eureka Hornets to a nifty 8-2 win over the Jacksonville Pilots. The Eureka catcher, who is a three-time All-Star, was a force of nature. He banged out 3 extra-base hits, including 2 home runs and 1 double. With this game in the books, Eureka is 94-67, Jacksonville 83-78.
Brian Carr had a big 2-run double for the Hornets in the top of the fifth inning. With Eureka leading 2-0 and the bases loaded, he got a slider from B.J. Tourtelotte, who finished 3rd in the TML in strikeouts with 160 last year, and swatted a double to left-center. It was his 26th double of the season, and more importantly, it put the Hornets ahead, 4-0.
Said losing manager Ryan Currie: "We need to play with more of an edge."
