The Manhattan Slice defeated the Hawaii Honu, 5-2, at Copps Park. Manhattan right fielder Ashton Dillon had a superb performance. He was 1-3 with a home run. He scored 2 runs and drove in 3. Peter Dillon was the winner. He's now 5-9. The loser was 26-year old right-handed pitcher Chris Sweeney. Mario Mirabal was called on to finish, recording his 35th save.
John McCluskey aided the Manhattan cause with a run-scoring single in the bottom of the first. For the game, the third baseman was 3-4 with 3 singles.
"We understand we didn't play our best baseball," said losing manager Naoki Okada. "We'll shower it off and be ready to compete."
The Slice are now 73-87, while the Honu fall to 69-91.
