The Yuma Varmits got a magnificent effort from pitcher Rene Fernandez, who kept Savannah hitters in check en route to a 3-0 Varmits win at The Range. Jason Gambale picked up the win in relief. His record improves to 1-0. Andy Vasquez suffered the loss. Losses have been few and far between for the Peaches, who are now 24-8.

Jon Escobar hit a 2-run home run off Hideto Miyamoto in the bottom of the eighth, which put the Varmits ahead, 2-0. In addition to the homer, Escobar had 1 double, while going 2 for 3.

"The effort we put into this one paid off," Escobar said.
