The Yuma Varmits topped the Coronado Islanders, 7-4, the lion's share of the credit going to designated hitter Victor Mendoza. On the day, Mendoza went 3-4 with 3 singles. He scored 2 times for the Varmits. Poto Makura earned the win, while 20-year old right-handed pitcher Miguel Perez took the loss for Coronado. Yuma is now 12-16.

It could have been a different outcome for Yuma, had it not been for David Monroy, the 20-year old center fielder . Monroy contributed a run-scoring walk in the top of the third inning to put Yuma up, 4-2.

"It doesn't matter if you're 10 games over .500 or 10 games under, it feels good to win," Mendoza told the Yuma Citizen.
