Warriors Sink Earthquakes, 7-4
|
Getting a good performance from catcher Wally Cassell, the Walnut Creek Warriors defeated the San Francisco Earthquakes, 7-4. Cassell went 2 for 4 with a home run and a triple. He drove in 3 runs and scored once for the Warriors. Hector Cardoza earned the win after being summoned from the bullpen. The right-hander allowed no runs on 2 hits in 3 innings. He upped his record to 4-2. Picking up the save was 29-year old left-handed pitcher Darren Rogers.
Cassell contributed a big hit, a 2-run triple, for Walnut Creek in the bottom of the first. With his team trailing 2-1, Cassell took a fastball from Bradley Bethlehem and stroked the triple to center. His 1st triple of the season allowed the Warriors to leap in front, 3-2.
"I'm proud to wear a Walnut Creek jersey," Cassell told the Walnut Creek Gazette. "We played a good game and came out with the win. What more can you ask for?"
The Warriors, now 74-81, have won 5 in a row.
