Pioneers Get Clutch Win, 6-5
The Vancouver Pioneers defeated the Quebec Armada, 6-5, in Thurman Munson League action at "The Fort" at B.C. Place. Vancouver pitcher John Crowther had a standout performance. Noel Belcher snagged the win in relief. He goes to 9-1 on the season. Mike Cornwell suffered the loss. The Pioneers improved their record to 82-71 by beating Quebec.

The clutch at-bat came in the bottom of the ninth inning, when Vancouver catcher Ron Gerlt, facing Mike Cornwell, had a run-scoring hit-by-pitch. It gave the Pioneers the 6-5 win.

"It was a solid team effort," Crowther said. "That's usually what it takes to win."
