Down to Defeat Go Beach Bums, 2-0
|
In a tension-filled contest between the Huntington Station Ramrods and the Traverse City Beach Bums, pitcher Jason Sanders was superb. The Huntington Station right-hander, who finished 4th in the RCL in ERA with 2.23 last year, spearheaded his team's 2-0 win. In 5.1 innings, Sanders surrendered 3 hits, while striking out 6 and walking 0. He allowed no runs. Bill Zink notched his 21st save of the season.
With scoring opportunities rare, the Ramrods had to cash in when they had the chance. One such opportunity presented itself in the bottom of the second, when first baseman Noah White hit a 2-run single. The single came off Marco Huerta and made the score 2-0, Ramrods. White went 2 for 3 with 2 singles, while adding 2 RBI.
"We leaned on our pitching tonight," White said.
Huntington Station, at 77-76, sits in third place in the Roberto Clemente League Christian Latulippe Division.
