Quebec Edges Pioneers, 6-5, Walker Clutch
|
The performance of Vince Walker proved critical in helping Quebec beat Vancouver, 6-5. The Armada second baseman went 2 for 3 with 2 home runs and a walk, while adding 5 RBI and scoring twice. Andrew Stith, who is tied for 10th in the TML with a 6.8 K/9 rate, was the winning pitcher. Over 7 innings, he allowed 3 runs on 4 hits, with 1 walk and 7 strikeouts. With the win, Quebec goes to 74-78, while the Pioneers fall to 76-76.
With Quebec leading 2-0 in the bottom of the second, Walker hit a changeup from Mike Ortner for a 3-run home run. It was his 27th home run of the season and put the Armada ahead, 5-0.
"The key is not trying to do too much," said Walker.
