Bison Lose to Mavericks, 4-2
|
Boosted by the 3-hit performance of Tim Morgan, who is tied for 10th in the RCL in stolen bases with 27, the El Paso Mavericks defeated the Bighorn Bison, 4-2. Bret Naughton, the winning pitcher, improved to 4-11. He pitched 5.2 innings, giving up 3 hits and 2 runs, while striking out 2 and walking 2. The save went to Jon Aguilera, number 2 for him.
El Paso third baseman Jeff Gifford contributed a timely at-bat in the bottom of the fourth. With two down, he hit a sinker to right field for a run-scoring single. It was his 137th hit of the season and put the Mavericks ahead, 3-2.
"We'll relax tonight and enjoy this win," said Morgan.
At 73-78, the Mavericks find themselves in 5th place in the Roberto Clemente League Mike Brouillette Division.
