The Bighorn Bison could not turn a fine performance from pitcher Mel Ibarra into a win. Instead, the Traverse City Beach Bums prevailed, 5-2. Ibarra threw 7.0 innings of 2-hit ball. The win belonged to Ricky Sanchez in relief. His record improves to 3-7. Pat Henry took the loss for Bighorn. Picking up the save was four-time All-Star Willie Roman.

Traverse City went in front, 3-2, on Justin Mays's 33rd double of the season. The 2-run double, which Mays hit in the bottom of the eighth, left Bighorn pitcher Mark Weston visibly perturbed.

"We need to keep playing good baseball," Mays told the Traverse City Observer.

The Beach Bums improved their record to 59-90 by beating Bighorn.
