Hornets Defeat Mounties, 7-4
|
Eureka center fielder Benny Rodriguez played a vital role in his team's 7-4 conquest of Montreal. He was 2-3 with a home run, a double, and a walk. He scored 3 runs and drove in 2 for Eureka. The win went to Harley Lowrie in relief, making him now 5-9. Brad Steck took the loss for Montreal. Picking up the save was 20-year old left-handed pitcher Justin Soule.
The game was at a stalemate until pinch hitter Tom Brown came to bat in the bottom of the eighth. Facing Montreal pitcher Brad Steck, he hit a 1-1 knuckleball for a run-scoring single. It was a game-changer, putting Eureka on top, 5-4.
"Winning the game is always the first objective," Brown said.
The 6th-place Hornets sport a record of 76-72.
