Honu Subdue Dallas, 5-3
|
The Hawaii Honu defeated the Dallas Texans by the score of 5-3, with the biggest share of the credit going to catcher Paul Cavanaugh. Cavanaugh went 3-4 with a home run and 2 singles, while adding 2 RBI and scoring once for the Honu on the day. Hawaii reliever Stephen Chivers picked up the win, upping his record to 3-4. Greg Woolery absorbed the loss. Hawaii, now 74-74, holds down third place in the Roberto Clemente League Christian Latulippe Division.
The Texans had been locked in a 1-1 tie with the Honu going into the bottom of the sixth inning. That changed quickly when the 26-year old first baseman Steve Bartlow came to the plate. Bartlow hit a 2-run home run on a full count forkball from Dallas hurler Trevor Bowe. It was Bartlow's 23rd home run of the year.
Cavanaugh attributed the win to his team's "collective resolve."
