Mavericks Nip Stogies, 3-2
|
El Paso Mavericks starter Edwin Serna pitched his team past the Havana Stogies, 3-2, in 18 innings. The setback makes Havana 91-57.
The decisive blow was delivered by Marty Hannibal in the bottom of the 18th when he hit a run-scoring double off 30-year old right-handed pitcher Josh Sills to win the game for El Paso. The home crowd went nuts.
During his postgame press conference, Mavericks manager Lorenzo Castillo told reporters that he expected a tight game from the get-go. "This had the potential to go down to the wire, and it certainly didn't disappoint," he said, later quipping, "it might've been a little less nerve-racking if I had been watching the game from my couch!"
